Apps keep working, servers see a new address
In full-device mode, every app on the phone or laptop sends its traffic through the tunnel: streaming, games, messengers, social apps and the browser alike. The network you are on sees one encrypted connection. The app's own servers see the server's address and still know which account is signed in. Most apps carry on as usual; a few react to the new address.
How different apps tend to react
- Streaming apps check where you are, and their terms decide what they show or whether they play at all.
- Online games add the distance to the server to your ping, so a server close to you matters.
- Messengers and social apps usually just work, and sometimes ask you to confirm a login from a new place.
- Banking apps may treat the new address as unusual and ask for an extra code.
A VPN for streaming, without promises
A VPN for streaming does one clear thing: it keeps the hotel or campus network from seeing what you watch and from slowing that service down on purpose. What it does not do is change your subscription. Netflix, YouTube TV and the sports services set rules by location and by plan, and many of them detect VPN addresses.
We do not claim that any streaming service works through our servers. On the road, the legal routes are the service's own travel rules, the home location you registered, or a local subscription.
Apps on networks you do not run
Hotel and airport networks sometimes block video calls, casting or whole categories of apps to save bandwidth. With the tunnel on, the network sees only encrypted traffic, so your apps behave much as they do at home. School and office networks are different: there the filter is the owner's policy, and getting around it can break the rules you agreed to. Ask the IT desk before you try.
When an app misbehaves inside the tunnel
- Disconnect for a moment to confirm the tunnel is the cause.
- Switch to another server from the list in the bot.
- Update both the app and the client.
- Sign out of the app and back in, so it sees the new address as you.
- If the app's terms forbid VPNs, use it with the key switched off.
Questions
Will a VPN make my games lag?
It adds the trip to the server. On a nearby server the difference is a few milliseconds; on a distant one you will feel it.
Can I leave one app outside the tunnel?
Some clients have per-app rules, called split tunneling, on Android and Windows. On iPhone most clients cover everything.
Why does an app say I am using a proxy?
It noticed the VPN address. Its terms decide what happens next; switching servers rarely changes that for long.
Does the tunnel affect app notifications?
No. Push notifications arrive through the tunnel like any other traffic.
Is a VPN useful for Telegram?
On public Wi-Fi, yes: the network cannot see that you use it. Telegram itself still knows your account.
