How risky is the hotel network, honestly?

For sites on HTTPS the content is encrypted either way. What stays open is which sites you visit, and whether the network you joined is the hotel's at all. A key closes both.

Does it work with the hotel login page?

Yes. Log in to the hotel page with the key off, then switch it on.

Can I keep a US address while I am abroad?

Only if the bot lists a United States location when you check, so look before you leave. Whether a service accepts that address is up to the service and its terms.

Do I need it at home too?

That depends on how you feel about your provider seeing which sites you visit. The same key works there.

And when the free days run out?

The key simply stops working. No charge follows and no plan starts. The bot lists the rates if you want to keep going.
